Keep testing and issue tracking in one flow
QA teams live in their test cases; engineers live in Linear. When those two stay separate, traceability breaks down — you can't easily tell which tests cover which work, or what a failing run actually relates to.
The Linear integration closes that gap. Connect once, then link test cases, test runs, and exploratory sessions to the Linear issues they relate to — and pull tracked work into TestOrchestrator as draft tests — without leaving your testing workflow.
What you can do with Linear + TestOrchestrator
- Connect in one click (OAuth). A workspace admin authorizes Linear with OAuth — no API tokens to generate or paste. Tokens refresh automatically, and reconnection is a single step if access ever lapses.
- Link test artifacts to Linear issues with live search. When you attach an external reference to a test case, run, or session, search your Linear issues by keyword and select the right one — instead of hunting for and pasting an issue key.
- AI insight on linked issues. Get an auto-generated summary of a linked Linear issue in the context of your testing, so reviewers understand it without opening Linear. Regenerate it any time. (AI feature.)
- Generate test cases from Linear. From the Linear sidebar, turn a tracked issue into draft test cases in the project you choose — a fast path from requirement to coverage. (AI feature.)
- Set a default generation project. Pick where sidebar-generated tests land so the flow is one click, not a project picker every time.
How to connect Linear
- In TestOrchestrator, open Admin → External references and choose Linear.
- Click Connect and authorize via Linear's OAuth screen. (You'll need admin rights in both tools.)
- Optionally set a default generation project for tests created from the Linear sidebar.
- Start linking issues: when adding an external reference to a test case or run, search Linear and pick the issue.
For step-by-step instructions and screenshots, see the Linear docs. For how external references work in general, see External references.
Why teams connect Linear
- Traceability without busywork — every test ties back to the issue it covers, so audits and reviews are faster.
- No context switching — link, read AI insight, and generate tests from where you already work.
- No tokens to manage — OAuth means no shared API keys to rotate or leak, with automatic token refresh.
- Tenant-isolated and reversible — your connection is scoped to your workspace and can be disconnected anytime.
